Whiny child? Take these three steps:

Whiny child? Consider hunger, fatigue, boredom.

Not hungry or tired, then rather than punishment or sending the child away, consider: Engage, Include, Enjoy!

  1. ENGAGE: “You seem out of sorts.”
  2. INCLUDE: “Come join me doing x. I would so love your help.”
  3. ENJOY “It is lovely doing x with you. Look how well we do x together”.

Even in the midst of a meltdown you may turn things around. Love, presence, peace of mind. Create a sense of contentedness and emotional security. You both can feel great.
